Paulinum in Leipzig
Use of OBO cable support and fire protection systems
The ultramodern and architecturally complex Paulinum is one of the most impressive buildings in Leipzig. The new building has taken the place of Paulinerkirche, which was demolished in 1968 for political reasons during the period of the GDR. Under its roof, Paulinum unifies scientific institutes and the large hall of the University of Leipzig, as well as a room for prayer.
OBO BETTERMANN supplied fire protection and cable support systems for almost all the areas of Paulinum.
Construction work on the Paulinum has taken place on Augustusplatz in Leipzig city centre since 2007. For aesthetic reasons, the transparent construction of the building means that it is necessary to hide the majority of the electrical installation in the raised floor.
The use of quickly mounted RKS-Magic® cable trays and GR-Magic mesh cable trays allowed rapid installation of a cable support system with and without function maintenance. In addition, SKS and SKSU cable trays were mounted in various areas. In order to install the fire insulation of the electrical installation in wall penetrations quickly, simply and without dust, KBK fire protection cushions were used.
The good partnership between the OBO contacts and project managers and mounting engineers made a major contribution to the rapid construction progress. Installation problems could be solved quickly and deliveries were adjusted flexibly to the progress of the construction work. The official opening of Paulinum is planned for December 2014.
